TRUE Colloidal Silver, utilizing the Continuous Process method, was developed in 1991. One of its advantages over the Batch Process method was to make Colloidal Silver available to the general public at a greatly reduced cost. CS made by the Batch Process sold for more than $100 per oz. pre 1938.
The Continuous Process product is currently being sold to several health-related MLM companies and health food stores in wholesale lots by the Silver Colloidal Co. This is the company formed by the man who developed the Continuous Process method after several years of research and experimentation.
The new Process method is a proprietory one, unknown to anyone other than the management of the Company. In recent years many others have attempted to develop their own versions of Colloidal Silver, but because of the difficulties in discovering the exact electrical frequency, coupled with High Voltage and a specialized magnetic field -- essential in the manufacturing of the True Colloidal Silver -- they have been unsuccessful. The frequency has been described as similar to tuning in a station on a radio dial, only with an infinitesimal number of possibilites.
Much of the confusion among consumers of Colloidal Silver has been about the optimum concentration. Misinformed manufacturers, believing in the old axiom that "more is better", have created this confusion by giving out incorrect information... the truth being it is the large amount of the very tiny particles that is necessary, NOT a large amount of Silver. The correct method is to utilize millions of the ultra-fine, electrically charged particles to saturate the tissues of the body and have them being able to enter the cells. The particles must be as small and INDEPENDENTLY acting as possible to be properly absorbed.
Particle size is the crucial factor involved in selection of the most effective Colloidal Silver. Most importantly, the tiny electro-magnetic charge on each particle in the correctly manufactured CS causes the particles to repel each other, preventing the clumping that might otherwise occur. Gravity pulls to the bottom of a bottle any Silver particles that are too large. The body cannot absorb these larger particles, so even if the bottle were shaken or if the particles were suspended by stabilizers, the large sized Silver particles are not utilized and thus are ineffective.
In many health food stores the bottles of Colloidal Silver have "shake well before using" printed on their labels. When you read those instructions you can be certain the bottle contains an inferior product containing stabilizers.
The optimum Colloidal Silver product has a certain concentration of Silver, the best being 15 to 20 ppm (parts per million). This is an enormous number of electrostatically charged, microscopic Silver particles, ALL of uniform size. With some of the inferior CS products, claims are made of much higher ppm concentration. But those products with higher ppm contain particles which are much too large, and fewer in number, and the body cannot utilize the particles.
Remember, the term Parts Per Million (ppm) designates the Total Concentration of Silver, NOT the total number of Particles.
People have tried many different methods to manufacture CS recently, attempting to make the silver particles remain suspended in the water. One is the Chemical Method, which uses strong acids to break down the Silver. Medical researchers have now determined that those chemicals can lead to toxicity and harmful side effects. This method also requires the use of stabilizers, which may be gelatin, or albumin. Various herbs or sea salt are sometimes added.
The use of ANY stabilizers in Colloidal Silver disrupts the action of the silver particles -- they bind together into larger clumps, which prevents the germicidal action seen when the silver particles are tiny and able to act independently of each other. In other words, the particles must be fine enough to enter and affect the microbes and viruses.
The International Colloidal Silver Council was established in 1994 to refute the many claims that dozens of manufacturers of Colloidal Silver products were making. Standards of excellence were formulated and testing specifications developed. The industry and public have been partially educated, but this is an on-going project.
The Council was established by a group of medical doctors, researchers, and other professionals concerned about maintaining the quality, purity and stability of Colloidal Silver. They worked continuously to provide information that would enable the industry to identify a true Colloidal Silver, as well as a method of standardizing the testing and specifications.
The main purpose of the International Colloidal Silver Council (ICSC) was to prevent misrepresentation of the many Colloidal Silver products and uses. It was determined that Colloidal Silver products must meet certain rigid standards which were in accordance with pre-1938 manufacturing guidelines. It was the goal of the Council to ensure that the public had access to safe and reliable Colloidal Silver products which would meet current FDA guidelines.
The ICSC had undertaken a project to provide a certification program by which the public could be confident that the CS they were using was a quality product. The Project was to provide the information to be used to aid in the worldwide standardization and identification of a true Colloidal Silver. Products meeting the standards of purity and quality were to carry the International Colloidal Silver Council's special Seal of Approval. That Seal was to identify certified products for the Public.
UPDATE AS OF NOVEMBER 2001:
Recently it was discovered that a certain company, based in Florida, had somehow obtained a Seal of Approval, then had it copied and began illegally placing the Seal on their bottles of Colloidal Silver. Someone complained to the ICSC. One of the Members obtained a bottle, had it tested, and learned of its inferiority. Its color was CLEAR, not golden yellow, as is the True Colloidal Silver, and it had been produced using a "CS maker" with low voltage batteries. Because the Seals have been patented, a lawsuit is in progress.
The ICSC decided to stop providing the Seals until the lawsuit is settled. This way the public will not be confused by trusting any Bogus Seals.
